Friends, I am pleased to announce that I have completed the first half of the Cake Ladies book. Thus far my soul journey has included: Open Doors, Welcome Tables, Voodoo Priestesses, Benevolent Witches, Cowboys, Farmers, Best Friends, Indian Chiefs, Belles-of-the Ball, Cherokee Grandmothers, Boys-Next-Door, Bad-ass Business-ladies, Great-Aunts, Adventures at the Corner of Pineapple Highway and Banana Street, Cupcake Fairies, Cake Shop Elves, Beautiful Homecomings, Getting Lost, Finding Lost Treasure, and the Milk of Human Kindness, among many other magical things. Not to mention the cake: Oh, dear God, the cakes I've eaten! I feel like the luckiest lady in the whole wide world.
I'll soon embark on the next leg of the journey- the Gullah Coast, Chicago, and the Sunshine State. I can't wait to see what these travels will bring- and I'll keep you posted. Meantime, thanks to the crew at the Cake Shop for holding down the fort so capably and gracefully.
And thank you, everything and everybody, for the love.

Go, cat, go!!! I can't wait for this book to come out. Jodi, do they already have an illustrator lined up for you? If not, you may want to check out the work of my friend Kim Hodges:
http://www.kimberlyhodges.com/

She is a total sweetheart, local, and her work is very colorful and uplifting. No pressure, just thought you may want to check her out. (She recently released a line of locally made placemats that are out-of-this-world.)

Even if her work doesn't do anything for you in terms of the book, she's still a beautiful person to get to know.

Cheers and way to kick ass on this book!!!! xoxo, H.

Heather, amazingly, there is already a team of editors, designers, and a photographer working on the book. Because Lark Books is so rad! I'd still love to meet Kim, though. xo

Awesome!!! Do you have the title, etc. out for your book? Can we preorder it?

Also, I'm a full-time proofreader (who has experience in proofreading cookbooks), and I would be more than happy to proofread your book for free! :) E-mail me if you're interested.

Awesome, Bonnie! I think I'm covered on copy editing, and the book won't be available for pre-order until a few months before publication (October 2011) but thanks so much! There has been so much support and love going into this project that its really (well, I want to say unbelievable, but I believe in it) AMAZING!
