I am happy to report that, as per my vow in my previous post, my garden is planted!
I owe this to the help of my family, who, after making me Mother's Day breakfast on Sunday, proceeded to spend 5 hours in my once-abandoned garden, weeding and turning the soil. On my day off with Jasper, we went to the greenhouse, bought some starts, and put them in the ground.
This year, we're going to have fresh basil, cilantro, squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, okra, marigolds, snapdragons, black-eyed susans, and green peppers for the kitchen garden.
I'm so glad to have a garden again this year. Back when Short Street Cakes was based out of my home, I grew all the flowers that I used to decorate the cakes, but couldn't keep up with it while opening the shop. This year, I can supplement the local farmer's flowers we buy for the cakes with fresh herbs and blooms from my yard, bringing the Cake Shop full circle and closer to home.
Much love and gratitude, especially to Duncan and Jasper. Happy Spring, Happy Mother's Day, and Happy Gardening!
